Igneous History of the Catalina Mountains

  • WHAT: This project focuses on the origin of the granite bodies that make up much of the Catalina Mountains north of Tucson. You will observe the geology of the Catalina Mountains, and conduct laboratory analyses of tiny but very complicated zircon crystals (lower right image).

  • WHERE: This project will involve field work in the Catalina Mountains (near Tucson) and  lab work in the Arizona LaserChron Center at the University of Arizona.
