The sedimentological history of the Galiuro Mountains

WHAT: In this project we will explore the sedimentologic history of an ancient basin that resides northwest of Tucson. This basin formed immediately prior to the development of the regions largest and highest mountain ranges. Using field-based observations and zircon age-dating of sedimentary rock samples our goal will be to connect ancient surface environments to deep-seated processes related to plate tectonics.

WHERE: This project will involve lab work at the University of Arizona LaserChron Center.
