Reconstructing Indian Ocean Conditions in a Greenhouse World

WHAT: In this laboratory project, you will primarily work with microfossils found in deep sea sediments from the Indian Ocean. You will use the chemistry of these tiny shells to reconstruct upper ocean conditions 3 million years ago, the last time Earth’s carbon dioxide concentrations were as high as they are today. The lessons we learn from this period of Earth history can help inform climate projections into the future.

WHERE: This project will involve lab work at the University of Arizona.
